A GIANT cow which stands more than 6ft 4ins tall and weighs the same as a family hatchback is so big it's been saved from the chop.

Knickers, a seven-year-old Holstein Friesian, is more than twice the size of the rest of the herd in Myalup, Western Australia.

The bovine behemoth stands head and shoulders above other farm beasts and weighs in at an incredible 1.4 tonnes (3,083lbs).

Owner Geoff Pearson told Perth Now that Knickers' size could even save its life, as Knicker's is too big for the local abattoir.

Butchers say the giant would produce around 1,400 lbs of trimmed 'saleable' beef  - enough for 450 cuts of steak and 370kg of mince.

Holstein-Friesians are a dairy breed and normally weigh in at about 1,500 pounds and stand about 4ft 1oins tall.

Even the breed's bulls only reach just 5ft 10ins and weigh 2,200lbs.

Geoff  - whose beast is the biggest of its breed in Australia - said: "It was too heavy. I wouldn’t be able to put it through a processing facility. So I think it will just live happily ever after."

The beast cost owners £225 and they bought him as a "coach" to take charge of the herd.

Knickers is technically a steer - which is a castrated male bovine.

Geoff continued: "When he was young, when we first got him, we had a Brahman steer which was a friend of his.

"So his name was bra... so we (had) bra and knickers. We never thought he would turn into a big knickers."

What big Knickers could be turned into if he ever ended up on the butcher's block

  • 60 Sirloin steaks
  • 45 T-bone steaks
  • 36 Rib steaks
  • 42 Short ribs
  • 33 Rump steaks
  • 30 Tenderloin steaks
  • 80 Porterhouse steaks
  • 15 Flank steaks
  • 60 Strip steaks
  • 450 kg  of ground beef
  • 180 kg of chuck, shank, brisket etc

Geoff - who has about 20,000 cattle - revealed the giant is also a big hit with the other cattle, who follow him around the paddocks in their hundreds.

Many of the cattle are Wagyu and are dark brown so mighty Knickers stands out even more in a pack because of his colour.

But despite his giant size, the towering farm animal is amazingly not the tallest cow ever recorded.

In 2010, a Chianina ox named Bellino who measured at just over 6ft 7ins at a cattle show in Rome.
