SHRESHTA scheme, scholarships will be provided to the beneficiaries that will cover all the educational expenses of meritorious students from class 9th to 11th. Only students belonging to scheduled caste will be able to take benefit of this scheme.

The government has approved a new scheme named SHRESHTA (Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas) for the purpose of providing seats for the meritorious SC boys and girls in the best private residential schools in the country.
Every year, it is expected that about (3000) students would be selected for admission in Class 9 and Class 11 under the scheme.
The government is going to roll out the scheme from the academic year 2022-23. In order to take advantage of this scheme, students are required to give an entrance examination which is known as NETS or the National entrance test for SHRESHTA.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has launched the scheme for Residential Education for Students in High Classes in Targeted Areas (SHRESHTA (NETS))-2022. The last date to apply for NETS 2022 exams is April 12.

All those students who qualify NETs exam will be shortlisted for admission to CBSE-affiliated schools. Through this scheme, scholarships will be directly disbursed to the schools that are giving admission to the shortlisted students.
SHRESHTA scheme is applicable only for the residential schools which are affiliated with CBSE up to class 12th, are in operation for five years or more with a 75% pass percentage or more in class 10th and 12th in the last three years. The interested residential schools are required to submit their online consent by 25th March 2022.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister, Virendra Kumar, on 2 December 2021 said the Residential Education for Students in High Schools in Targeted Areas (SRESHTA) scheme will enable meritorious SC students to have a better future. SRESHTA scheme will also aid in controlling dropout rates of students from classes 9 to 12.
